About

I am Rachael, a university graduate with a love for food. My mum is from Malaysia and my Dad is from Singapore. Although I was born and raised in the UK, this has not diminished the indomitable obsession with food which is synonymous with every Singaporean and Malaysian you will meet.

Food has always been an important part of my life. My great grandmother, Ellice Handy, was a cookery book writer, my grandmother is an excellent cook who taught my parents how to cook, my aunt was a caterer who now owns a Japanese bento restaurant in Singapore. And of course my parents own and run Rose Apple Bakery, a bespoke cake and cupcake company.

In June 2011 I graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies with a degree in Modern and Classical Chinese and did an 8 month internship with the front of house and management team at L’atelier des Chefs, a central London cookery school.  I have since worked for The Underground Cookery School and Splat Cooking.

These days you will find me elbow deep in either bread dough or chocolate as I work towards my patisserie diploma at Westminster Kingsway College.
